A need for further waste management laws

After recently watching an ITV video of elephants surviving by grazing on a landfill in Sri Lanka I became aware of the failure England and Wales' waste management laws have on an international scale.
Just because there are laws in England and Wales regulating waste management and requiring permits for waste disposal does not lessen the extent that our waste is impacting other countries. There is a lack of awareness regarding the location that our waste materials are sent to be disposed of, and the issue with this is that other countries are having to adapt to enable us to meet our developmental desires. This was shown through the video which explains that the elephants have nowhere else to find food due to deforestation removing their hunting grounds.
I believe further waste management is required urgently on an international scale to help integrate the policies across all countries to ensure a more sustainable outcome for the natural environment.
