A new way forward for energy supply within England is on the horizon with SSE, Scottish Power and National Grid agreeing to start on a new project in 2024.
The aim of the 'Eastern Link' is to utilize Scotland's renewable energy sources by constructing 270 miles worth of underwater power cables. This project will provide a significant rise in employment, especially within construction which is facing up to 120,000 job losses as a result of the Pandemic. This shows that this project will be extremely beneficial for the economy and will boost the revenue that these Energy firms will gain as a result of more reliance on local energy sources, opposed to oversea relations being necessary.
This project will hopefully help the government to achieve their target of building offshore wind farms to supply energy for every house in the UK by 2030. The UK is legally bound to become a carbon neutral economy by 2050 and this project shows that it is very likely to have high support amongst the government.
